Ursa Major, or, The Great Bear, is most commonly known as The Big Dipper. I got the idea a long time ago to do constellation gardens. Seemed like a no-brainer.
You got your little dots, you got your blue, glowy, 80s hair metal lines connecting them.
Hole in one.
Interestingly, Ursa major, according to Wikipedia, was deemed to be a bear (in shape? in concept?) by many distinct civilizations. Obviously, some civilizations would never have seen bears, so other interpretations involve a shrimp, seven sages, and some crazy shit dreamed up by the Theosophists, involving beaming energy between different celestial beings...look it up.
Any purists will note the lack of the seventh star. Although, that would've been perfect considering the zen garden tradition of having seven stones, I was working from a template that only features the major points, and so the seventh star was omitted.
